Our Story

Tanner & Pearson Funeral Home began in March 1934 when Gordon Tanner and Melvin Pearson took over the existing Walker Funeral Home & Furniture Store. They then assumed the business of Schuett Funeral Home in Cargill.  Neil MacDonald and Doug Trushinski became partners. In 1961 Mel Pearson passed away.  In 1967 they purchased the Stahle Funeral Home in Hanover and also operated the Ermel Furniture Store in Hanover and Ken Craig became a partner.  In 1984 the Hanover location was sold to John and Marilyn Mighton and the furniture store was closed in 1985. Also in 1985 Neil and Doug retired leaving Ken as the sole owner. The furniture store in Walkerton was sold to Unclaimed Freight of Owen Sound and continued to operate for a number of years as Walkerton Home Furnishings. In 1989 Ken moved the funeral home from the main street downtown to its present location at the south end of town. Jamie and Yolanda Cameron joined the firm in 1994; buying out Ken in 1997. The funeral home was renamed Cameron Funeral Home in 2002. It has since been owned and operated by Jamie and Yolanda Cameron. In the fall of 2015, the Camerons welcomed their son Jay and his wife Danielle, both funeral directors, to the family business.
