Obituary for Linda Marlene Spong (Spong)

Linda Marlene Spong, of Toronto, passed away at Toronto Western Hospital on Wednesday, May 2nd, 2018. She was 52.

Dear sister of Jeff (Tricia) of Thornton, Liane Spong of Longford Mills and Ryan (Krista) of London. Loved by her nieces and nephews Joshua, Colson, Hannah, Jakob, Corey, Jordan, MacKenzie and Emma.

Linda was predeceased by her parents Robert and Marlene (nee Tanner) Spong.

Linda's family will receive relatives and friends from 1:00 pm until 2:00 pm on Tuesday, May 8th, 2018 at the Cameron Funeral Home, Walkerton (1106 Yonge St. S). followed by her funeral service at 2:00 p.m. Ann Maycock officiating.

Interment in Douglas Hill Cemetery.

Dear Jeff and Family: I am very, very sorry for your loss. Linda and I shared the same Kindergarten and Grade 3 classes at Walkerton Public School, and then sadly lost touch with each other after that. Out of the blue, Linda reached out to me about 3 years ago and we had the opportunity to catch up a bit. She reminded me of a Greek tote bag I had given her as a gift at one of her birthday parties, and made me feel really happy about it after all these years. Who does that?!? Linda was a lovely human being, warm and sensitive. I'm sorry we never had the chance to meet up and chat more. Truly, that will be my loss. I am truly sorry to hear as of late Linda's passing. I met Linda 5 yrs. ago and we became instant friends. She was a beautiful person with a big heart. Whenever,she could provide help she did, like baby sit our friends dog, run an errand or two for a sick friend, and decorate the lobby of the building on every special occassion. Linda will forever be remembered myself and staff of Greenwin Properties at 389 Church St., along with several former tenants.

My thoughts and prayers are with you all at this time as I remember Linda and her beautiful smile. One particular time that sticks out in my memory was in Mr Warnstrom's Grade 6 class during speeches. Linda did her speech on the topic of having to give a speech and closed her time with "Hey I did it...I really did it!" and then that smile as she walked back to her desk.
I hope your memories of good times are a comfort to you all.

Linda was my roommate my first year at U of G. I remember the day I met her and how shocked I was that she too was from Bruce County. We had a lot of fun times. Linda loved to dance and never took a rest on the dance floor. She loved music (the Beatles and Tears for Fears) come to mind. Linda read a lot and had knowledge in a wide range of areas. Except for where she left her gloves. As a joke I had my Mom knit her a pair of mittens with a string attached that you leave inside your coat so you don't lose them. She loved them and used them. She had a great sense of humour and what a laugh.
Although our lives took different directions after University I will always remember Linda. I am sorry I will be unable to attend the memorial but I send my sincere condolences to all of Linda's family and friends.
